About The Position

The ER Tech Il is responsible for performing patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record, and achieving and maintaining patient care competencies as determined by Emergency Department management. This role also involves ensuring an adequate supply of equipment for patient care, assisting with clerical functions, transporting patients and equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness and maintenance of patient care areas and equipment. The ER Tech will collaborate with nurses and physicians to maintain waiting room safety and keep vital signs up to date. Additionally, the position requires adherence to patient safety practices, reporting of safety events, and promotion of a culture of safety.

Requirements

  • Certified as CNA, EMT, paramedic, or ERT with 2~3 yrs. of hospital or pre~hospital patient care experience or acceptance at an accredited medical school or completions of 2~3 years of nursing school clinical rotations or completion of a certified medical assisting program.
  • Ability to move / lift patients and push carts, etc.
  • Ability to use keyboard, see computer screen.
  • CNA, EMT, ERT, MA certification
  • Current CPR certification
  • Completion of the age specific competency
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
  • For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
  • Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record.
  • Achieve and maintain patient care competencies as determined by Emergency Department management.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care.
  • Assist with clerical functions such as telephone and order entry, backs-up clerical associates and greeters for breaks and meals.
  • Transport patients and equipment interdepartmentally.
  • Ensure that patient care areas, storage rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained.
  • Collaborate with nurses and physicians to maintain waiting room safety and keep vital signs up to date.
  • Report patient safety events and near misses in timely fashion.
  • Adhere to all behavioral and procedural patient safety practices.
  • Promote culture of safety through identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent patient harm.
  • Communicate openly and promote team work.
  • Report intimidating behavior and other threats to patient safety promptly.
