This position will be rotating holidays and weekends. The Telemetry Tech provides accurate cardiac rhythm interpretation and surveillance through continuous monitoring of telemetry patients. They recognize, record, and report dysrhythmias and rhythm changes immediately to the patients nurse. They monitor rhythms continuously, mount rhythm strips, and document interpretation of rhythm/rate and PR, QRS, QT intervals. The Telemetry Tech is specially trained in cardiac rhythm and EKG patterns, and documents and interprets rhythm strips. They also assist with the orientation of new employees to the work environment, act as a resource for students and peers, and function as a preceptor when requested. The role requires independent meeting of mandatory requirements, and teaching and informing others in an appropriate manner, within the scope of practice. The Telemetry Tech uses appropriate problem-solving information needed to perform assigned duties, recognizes changes in patient's EKG rhythm or abnormal EKG findings and notifies the nurse in a timely manner. They give shift report in a thorough, organized, and efficient manner, create permanent records of cardiac rhythm strips, and demonstrate clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. They communicate monitor problems and lead problems to the nurse. The Telemetry Tech anticipates patients needs and seeks opportunities to alter care with the collaboration of a nurse, shares knowledge with other members of the health care team on how to meet individual patient needs, and interacts with patients, physicians, nursing staff, biomedical engineering and other health care workers as needed. They attend continuing education programs provided to maintain knowledge and skills and successfully complete a monitor technician test to ensure competency of rhythm identification. The role is self-directed in completing assignments, assures that work time is managed appropriately, and uses an appropriate problem-solving approach to perform assigned duties. The Telemetry Tech maintains work area and adequate supplies, uses equipment/supplies correctly, and recognizes and troubleshoots technical monitor problems and reports to the charge nurse and/or designee. Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 - 12 yrs.; Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs.; Young Adult/Adult 18 - 64 yrs.; Adult/Middle Aged 65 - 79 yrs.; Geriatric 80+ yrs. Performs other duties as assigned.
