About The Position

Under general supervision, performs skilled work of moderate to considerable difficulty in the operation of a wide variety of vehicles and heavy equipment. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. The position is classified and subject to Merit System Rules pursuant to Arizona Law. The work involves maintaining and performing routine maintenance on roadways, right of ways, and flood control structures. It may also involve operating equipment in support of Solid Waste operations, including trucking. The role requires applying mathematical computations for projects and maintenance, such as cutting slopes, reading blueprints, and surveying, and preparing reports. Operator-level maintenance on vehicles and equipment is also a responsibility, along with performing manual labor. There is a possibility of supervising a small number of operators, workers, and laborers, potentially including inmates.

Requirements

One (1) year of experience operating equipment in construction or a field related to the specific job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and ability to be covered by county insurance; OR attain an Arizona Class A CDL within 5 months of employment date.
Ability to operate various types of equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to oversee a crew engaged in unskilled or semi-skilled tasks.
Ability to supervise an inmate work crew.

Nice To Haves

Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
