About The Position

ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Maintenance & Operations in Juneau is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 1/2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Equipment Operator - Journey 1: The incumbent will perform equipment operations commensurate with a journey-level operator. The main focus of this position will be to utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy-duty equipment will be in a training capacity. Equipment Operator - Journey 2: The incumbent will perform equipment operations commensurate with a journeyman level operator. The main focus of this position will be to utilize various types of heavy equipment to perform maintenance activities. Shift work may be required.

Requirements

  • Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Submit a current copy of your Commercial Driver's License with endorsements at time of interview.
  • Provide three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
  • Comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  • Pass the required Pre-Employment drug test.
  • Register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties.
  • Provide consent to the Employer to review driver information.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road including cost and limits (Transportation competency).
  • Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, or watercraft (Vehicle operation competency).
  • Ability to identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations (Problem solving competency).
  • Ability to accurately coordinate one's eyes with one's fingers, wrists, or arms to perform job-related tasks (Eye-hand coordination competency).
  • Ability to encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; foster commitment and team spirit; work with others to achieve goals (Teamwork competency).
  • For Equipment Operator Journey 1: Successfully obtain a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire and sign an agreement.
  • For Equipment Operator Journey 2: Possess a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of hire.
  • For Equipment Operator Journey 2: Successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement.

Nice To Haves

  • For Equipment Operator Journey 2: Conditional hire approval for endorsements is possible, requiring successful obtainment of an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.
