An Equipment Operator II operates one or more types of heavy equipment and performs a variety of skilled tasks in support of solid waste and resource recovery operations. This role requires strong technical ability, sound judgment, and a consistent focus on safety, efficiency, and accountability. Employees in this class exercise considerable skill in operating equipment while maintaining constant awareness of surroundings to prevent accidents, protect personnel, and avoid equipment damage. Work involves completing assigned tasks with accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to operational and safety standards. Assignments are typically outlined by supervisors; however, employees are expected to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and ownership of assigned responsibilities. Work is inspected periodically for safety, quality, and efficiency. This class differs from Equipment Operator I by requiring a higher degree of skill, the ability to perform more complex tasks, and a greater level of accountability due to the potential impact of errors on operations, safety, and equipment.
