About The Position

Operates medium to heavy machinery in the maintenance of the parks and parkways. This role involves a variety of tasks related to park maintenance, construction assistance, and event support. The position requires adherence to professional conduct and may involve occasional supervision of work release inmates.

Requirements

Skills in effective operation of necessary equipment.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements associated with equipment operation.
Ability to work at elevated heights up to 70 feet.
Ability to ride and operate tractors and mowers for extended periods.
Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.
Must attend a work release supervisor training class annually.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) is required or must have the ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
One or more years of related work experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

Operates tractors with hydraulic lifts, arm reach mowers, or other attached accessories.
Operates equipment such as a bobcat with all attachments, backhoe, high loader, mowers, and polecat.
Cuts and removes dead or hazardous trees.
Removes snow and ice from park facilities.
Trims trees and hauls trash and debris to the landfill.
Assists on construction projects, new facilities, and renovation of existing facilities.
Supervises prison work release inmates occasionally.
Helps in the general maintenance of the park system.
Assists in delivery of equipment for city-sponsored events and projects.
Trains Seasonal Laborers.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
