About The Position

The Equipment Operator II operates and maintains equipment to support proper sanitary solid waste disposal for the citizens of St. Joseph. The position has no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Duties include operating trucks and landfill equipment, performing routine maintenance, and assisting with equipment repairs. The role may also involve training on additional heavy equipment, occasional laborer work, and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Skills in the safe operation of equipment used in landfill maintenance.
• Knowledge of landfill operations, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to read surveyor's marks and build areas or projects accordingly.
• Good hand/eye and hand/foot coordination.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.
• Valid State of Missouri Class A CDL with Tanker and Trailer endorsements.
• One to three years of experience in a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check before employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of trucks, including roll-off, flusher, and dump trucks.
• Operate a windrow turner and tub grinder to compost yard waste.
• Use a loader to move fences, perform special lifting, load dump trucks and scrapers, load metal, and pull trucks out when they become stuck due to wet weather.
• Operate tractors with mower attachments.
• Assist the mechanic with overhauls and maintenance when assigned equipment is inoperable.
• Perform daily maintenance, including checking fluids and oil, fueling, and cleaning equipment.
• Train in the operation of dual engine scrapers, compactors, and/or bulldozers as assigned.
• Occasionally perform laborer duties when required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
