About The Position

We are pleased to offer the current job opportunity for an Equipment Operator II position within the Division of Transportation. This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation - Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991. As a team member at DuPage County, you will also have access to time off with pay on Designated Holidays or holiday pay if required to work, Vacation time, Sick time and Personal days. Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brakes endorsement.
  • A Class A CDL with air brakes is required within 6 months of hire or promotion.
  • A post offer drug screen is required.
  • A post offer physical is required.
  • A pre-employment background check is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g. paver, loader, skid steer loader, vactor, snow plow, wing plow, semi-tractor/trailer, tractor, sweeper, and backhoe) for performing maintenance and construction of roads and sewer lines
  • Cleans roads of debris
  • Repairs shoulders and right-of-ways
  • Fills in cracks and potholes to avoid safety hazards on roadways
  • Operates equipment for snow removal on roads
  • Performs basic maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment
  • Acts as a lead worker and assists co-workers with their work assignments
