About The Position

The City of San Bernardino is seeking a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment. Equipment Mechanic I (Flex) diagnoses, maintains, repairs, and overhauls a wide variety of diesel, gasoline, electric, hybrid and CNG-powered automotive, construction equipment and police vehicles. Performs preventive maintenance duties and operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles or construction equipment (for Equipment Mechanic I).
  • Three to four (3-4) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles or construction equipment or 12-24 months experience as an Equipment Mechanic I for the City (for Equipment Mechanic II).
  • A State of California driver’s license.
  • A valid Class "B" California Driver's License with appropriate Passenger and/or Tank and/or Hazmat endorsement(s).
  • Three current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in any combination (truck and/or automotive) required prior to advancement to Equipment Mechanic II.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Heavy Duty Truck Technician Certification is highly desirable.
