About The Position

The City of Wilsonville is seeking an Equipment Mechanic I to join their Fleet Services Division. The position involves maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of City vehicles and equipment, including transit buses, trucks, heavy equipment, mowers, and small engines. Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D.
Two years of vocational training in vehicle and equipment mechanics and welding (additional years working as a journeyman mechanic may substitute for vocational training).
Two years of experience as a mechanic, including work with both heavy and light duty gas and diesel equipment.
Valid Oregon driver license.
Ability to assess and repair city vehicles, buses, and heavy equipment.
Ability to effectively use oral and written communication in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of fabrication techniques and procedures.
Ability to work with other city employees in the design and fabrication of equipment.
Ability to organize and maintain maintenance records on city vehicles and heavy equipment.
Ability to learn and implement city procedures, regulations, and requirements with respect to procurement, safety, operations, and organization.
Possess (or ability to obtain within three months of hire) an Oregon Commercial Driver License - Class B with passenger and air brake endorsements.
Possess (or ability to obtain within three months of hire) a refrigerant handling certification.
Possess (or ability to obtain within three months of hire) a forklift operator's certification.
A personal set of handtools.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on all City vehicles and equipment, including buses, automobiles, trucks, and off-highway equipment.
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on City vehicles and transit buses.
Perform maintenance and repair of CNG and battery electric vehicles.
Conduct oil changes, transmission services, tire repair and replacement, light duty brake jobs, and belt and hose replacements.
Perform battery inspection, service, and replacement, and lighting system repairs.
Maintain and repair equipment.
Interview operators concerning the status of equipment.
Assist with the diagnosis and repair of heavy-duty vehicle systems, including brakes (air and hydraulic), automatic and manual transmissions, differentials, and suspension systems.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical-related problems.
Assist with the procurement of necessary parts, supplies, and tools.
Perform service and repair to gasoline, diesel, and CNG fuel systems.
Perform equipment fabrication, including collaborating with others to assess purpose and create designs, selecting appropriate materials, cutting and shaping materials, and welding materials.
Assist with performing finish work and modifications as needed.
Input service and repair information on vehicles and equipment into the City Fleet Management System.
Assess options for new, used, or rebuilt parts.
Maintain an inventory of personal tools.
Assess options regarding purchasing or renting specialty tools.
Procure materials and supplies according to city and department purchasing policy.
Operate vehicles and equipment as needed for retrieval and repair.
Clean vehicles, including washing interiors and exteriors, windows, mirrors, head and tail lamps, dusting and sweeping interiors, and performing scheduled maintenance such as washing floors, seats, walls, and roofs.
Detail vehicles using waxes and protectants.
Perform facility and grounds maintenance in wash and fueling areas.
Perform general cleanup of assigned areas as directed by a supervisor.
Perform general maintenance at bus stops, remove debris and graffiti from shelters and signs, and assist with bus stop sign and/or shelter replacement.
Complete other duties as assigned.
