About The Position

Mohawk Valley Community College is seeking an EOP Summer Academic Mentor in their Opportunity Program Department. This role serves as an academic role model, peer leader, and guide to help EOP students successfully transition to college life by fostering academic confidence, community, and engagement. Requirements

  • Must be a MVCC graduate, current, or continuing student or completed a minimum of 60 college credits
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for incoming students
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and able to participate in required program activities
  • Must complete all necessary training before the start of the Summer program
  • Available the entire summer appointment and have the ability to assist EOP program staff with summer evening activities, closing recognition ceremony, major check-ins, and check-outs

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to students who are current or former participants of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), or similar access/support program
  • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, student leadership, orientation programs or campus involvement

Responsibilities

  • Provides mentorship, tutoring, and assignment support to EOP students in subjects such as English, Reading, and Math.
  • Serves as an academic support resource in designated classes.
  • Assists students with study strategies, time management, organization skills, and academic accountability to promote student success.
  • Facilitates individual and group study sessions while monitoring student progress and communicating concerns to EOP staff.
  • Serves as a positive role model by building supportive relationships that foster student belonging, confidence, and engagement.
  • Leads and participates in workshops, icebreakers, evening/weekend activities, and community-building programs that support college readiness and student development.
  • Encourages active participation in EOP academic, enrichment, and campus activities while connecting students with campus resources and support services.
  • Supports daily program operations by assisting with orientation activities, maintaining accurate student records and files, distributing materials, and helping enforce program expectations and schedules.
  • Performs other duties related to the job description as assigned by the Director of EOP.
