About The Position

Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting in performing, reviewing, and monitoring environmental assessments inspections to ensure the health and safety of local residents. Working conditions are primarily in an outside or inside environment with frequent exposure to temperature variations and a dirty environment. Exercises no supervision. This position is a "grant funded" position, therefore unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the construction industry or environmental industry.
  • Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License.
  • Lead Risk Assessor State certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Lead Supervisor State certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
  • If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
  • If selected for this position, official transcripts, diplomas, certifications, and licenses must be submitted at the time of processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and professional experience conducting home inspections, addressing environmental health issues, particularly indoor air quality, lead, mold/moisture, and safety hazards.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of cost estimating for the construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with environmental reviews of properties as required by HUD.
  • Reviews risk assessments/inspections and energy audits performed by outside agencies.
  • Monitors assigned cases including state regulated areas.
  • Assists in developing a scope of work which may include: lead hazard reduction, mold/moisture remediation, integrated pest management, allergen reduction, indoor air quality, household injury protection, energy efficiency, and weatherization interventions.
  • Identifies, assesses, and ranks Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) 29 safety hazards within the home.
  • Assists in reviewing written cost estimates for scopes of work and work change orders.
  • Coordinates work with environmental contractors, consultants, clients, program partners, city and state departments, and resolves project issues.
  • Monitors project budgets and acts as a liaison between homeowners and contractors.
  • Provides technical assistance to homeowners, landlords, partners, and government organizations.
  • Researches all costs pertaining to environmental remediation work and repairs associated with the assigned cases.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
