About The Position

As a summer-seasonal Student Assistant, you will join the environmental services team to solve challenges. Our solutions enrich our communities and improve the quality of life. As an Environmental Student Assistant you will assist with environmental data collection, operations, and maintenance at TRWD’s George Shannon Wetlands. you will also assist with maintaining equipment necessary for sampling as well as assess and analyze water quality, environmental, and geospatial data collected.

Requirements

  • Less than one (1) year of experience
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Strong organizational, writing, communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to relocate or travel daily to the George Shannon Wetlands for the duration of employment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university majoring in environmental science, biology, geography, engineering, or related field
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Intern experience working in a laboratory or performing other types of environmental or geographic data collection, analysis, and survey
  • Completed course work in environmental science, biology, geography, or engineering
  • College courses or undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Using data to solve problems
  • Data analysis
  • Interest in water reuse, natural biological systems, wetlands, water quality, environmental science, and statistics
  • Perform water sampling and basic laboratory water chemistry analysis
  • Collect sediment samples for analysis from George Shannon Wetland
  • Operate UTV for herbicide application
  • Assist with overall clean-up of RC Laboratory
  • Assist with instrumentation calibration along District pipelines
  • Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel to update database and SOP’s, and produce graphs
  • Utilize ArcGIS to collect field data and create or update maps
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required
