About The Position

Temporary hourly-intermittent student assistant position(s) available in Student Orientation-Transition. These positions are for students to facilitate small and large group sessions, lead discussions, develop content for breakout sessions, facilitate icebreakers and engaging group activities, serve as a peer mentor, welcome and assist new students and supporters, provide information regarding preparation for their first year, support transition-focused initiatives, foster a sense of belonging, provide information and lead sessions for the Supporters orientation program, lead campus tours, represent the university professionally, assist with program logistics, support event set-up and breakdown, ensure sessions run on schedule, assist professional staff with troubleshooting, implement programs during the academic year, and support student outreach efforts. Attendees are required to participate in all trainings and meetings, demonstrate understanding of student support services, university policies, and program expectations, serve as a positive role model, and participate in ongoing development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate students must be registered/enrolled in a minimum of six (6) Fall/Spring units.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate small and large group sessions across orientation and transition programs
  • Lead small groups and discussions related to academics, student life, and community experiences
  • Propose, develop, and co-lead content for breakout sessions relevant to Stanislaus State demographics in support of student acclimation and readiness for their collegiate experience.
  • Facilitate icebreakers and engaging group activities to support student connection and transition
  • Serve as a peer mentor and resource for new students and their supporters
  • Welcome and assist new students and supporters in orientation and transition experiences
  • Establish and maintain rapport with incoming students and their supporters
  • Provide information to new first year and transfer students regarding preparation for their first year at Stanislaus State, including connection to campus services, resources and involvement opportunities
  • Assist students in their transition from high school or other post-secondary institutions through continued engagement and navigation efforts
  • Support transition-focused initiatives throughout the semester (e.g., Welcome Booths, Weeks of Welcome, workshops, presentations, and student engagement activities)
  • Help foster a sense of belonging through meaningful student interaction and engagement across orientation and transition experiences
  • Provide information and lead sessions for the Supporters orientation program as assigned.
  • Lead campus tours to familiarize students and supporters with key locations and resources
  • Represent the university in a professional, welcoming, and student-centered manner.
  • Assist with program logistics, including check-in, navigation and overall program flow
  • Support event set-up, transitions between sessions and program breakdown
  • Help ensure sessions and activities run on schedule
  • Support professional staff with troubleshooting and participant needs
  • Assist with the implementation of programs during the academic year, including workshops, presentations, and engagement events
  • Support student outreach efforts, including follow-up communication and check-ins.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required trainings and meetings
  • Demonstrate understanding of student support services, university policies and program expectations
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of the University
  • Participate in ongoing development opportunities to enhance leadership, communication and program facilitation skills
  • As available, support continued engagement efforts, including student check-ins
