About The Position

Performs specialized technical field and office work involving research, cross connection inspection, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with Reclaimed Specifications. Work is performed under general supervision and employees are expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment in interpretation of applicable codes and FDEP (Florida Department of Environmental Protection) regulations. Performance is reviewed through conferences, reports, and results obtained.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree with major coursework in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • One (1) year of public utilities experience preferably in a potable or reclaimed water distribution environment (for Environmental Specialist I).
  • Three (3) years of public utilities experience preferably in a potable or reclaimed water distribution environment (for Environmental Specialist II).
  • Six (6) years of public utilities experience preferably in a potable or reclaimed water distribution environment (for Environmental Specialist III).
  • Must obtain Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association “Reclaimed Water Site Inspector” Certificate within one (1) year of employment (for Environmental Specialist I).
  • Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association “Reclaimed Water Site Inspector” certificate (for Environmental Specialist II and III).
  • Florida Water Distribution System Operator Level III required (for Environmental Specialist II).
  • Florida Water Distribution System Operator Level II license required (for Environmental Specialist III).
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
  • Must complete a background check to obtain a GOAA Secure Area Access I.D. badge within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Selected candidates will be invited to complete a Microsoft Word and Excel Exam.

  • Customer relations expertise is desired (for Environmental Specialist II and III).
