About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation is a trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, providing technical expertise and innovative solutions across satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil, and commercial customers. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), the company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist II/III. This role involves managing and implementing Occupational Safety and Environmental programs, including emergency planning, fire protection, life safety, fire systems inspections and maintenance, fall protection, electrical safety, LOTO, contractor safety, injury investigation, and laser safety. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at the facility in Chantilly, VA.

Requirements

  • A minimum of (1) year of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or related field is required (for Environment Health & Safety Specialist II)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and staff
  • Ability to plan, organize, and follow-up on workflow to meet department goals and objectives
  • Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision, but will not hesitate to ask for more information from supervisors or peers so that tasks can be completed correctly and timely
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills and able to prioritize tasks and projects
  • Willing to travel domestically approximately 5% of time (as needed)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • A minimum of (3) years of occupational health and safety experience is required (for Environment Health & Safety Specialist III)
  • Program and project management experience (for Environment Health & Safety Specialist III)

Nice To Haves

  • 4-5 years of occupational health experience
  • Experienced with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and ANSI Standards
  • Experience with environmental, health, and safety best practices, standards, and methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Implements and enhances EHS awareness in the workplace through implementation of established Corporate EHS programs
  • Collaborates with customers to mutually establish EHS requirements and priorities as a basis for department goals
  • Ensures compliance with internal EHS regulations as well as compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including completing inspections and maintaining records, as required
  • Interface with Emergency Response and Crisis Management teams
  • Investigate injuries/incidents to determine root cause and develop corrective actions and track to completion
  • Assists in training personnel regarding environmental, health, safety programs, matters, regulations and EHS awareness programs
  • Respond to on-site emergencies, such as evacuation, shelter-in-place, and lock down
