About The Position

Under general supervision, this position will focus on ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting site monitoring, and assisting with environmental remediation. The role involves engaging with Environmental Specialists II or above to complete tasks, support permit applications, compliance reporting, and reviewing/analyzing data. This position will serve as the initial contact for organizing and maintaining applicable records within the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) recordkeeping system. It provides first-level technical and administrative support for environmental remedial investigations and incident and complaint responses. The Environmental Specialist I will report non-compliant conditions to the Environmental Supervisor in a timely fashion and assist with documentation and preparation of technical work plans to support environmental programs and processes. Continuous learning of new regulations and legislation is expected, along with conducting routine inspections as needed to maintain compliance with permits and regulations. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Field of Study: Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
  • Possess basic knowledge of fundamental environmental programs, theories, concepts, techniques, procedures and practices.
  • Entry level awareness and general knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulations regarding the CWA Section 404 and 401, USACOE, USFWS, SHPO, SPCC, NPDES, Clean Air Act and Hazardous and Solid Waste Rules (RCRA).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc., and use/operation of standard office equipment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to converse with staff, management, contractors and operations using appropriate and effective communication tools.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with multiple teams.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks under general direction.
  • Good time management and organizational skills to meet set deadlines.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Able to recognize and apply safety processes and procedures.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and clean driving record (MVR) that meet Company’s Insurance qualifications to operate Company vehicle.

  • Expand knowledge of new regulations and legislation on a consistent basis.
  • Conduct routine inspections for environmental inspections as needed to maintain compliance with permits and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
