About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This Evening shift position requires 40 scheduled weekly hours. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may extend to various locations within the facility, including patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and other work areas. The technician must wear appropriate protective equipment, keep supplies stocked and tidy, and may use pagers and other technology. Assistance in laundry areas and potential use of Sanford technology applications may be required. The position involves significant physical activity, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours can vary depending on patient needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • No formal education is required.
  • Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility, including departmental meetings, safety education, and mandatory in-services.
  • Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in various departments/areas of the facility.
  • Ability to follow cleaning policy and procedure for each department.
  • Ability to follow guidelines in the use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas.
  • Following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Emptying waste baskets.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered equipment.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Potentially using Sanford technology applications.
  • Performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 40-50lbs and pushing/pulling variable weight limits.
  • Being on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Working varying hours based on patient needs, including potential overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
