About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. This role involves tasks such as emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The technician will demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning various locations like patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and locker rooms to meet health standards. The role also involves wearing proper protective equipment, keeping supplies stocked, and potentially using Sanford technology applications. Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits is required. The position requires being on feet for the majority of the shift and may involve exposure to noise from equipment. Work hours will vary depending on patient needs and may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • No formal education is required.
  • Must fulfill the annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility, including departmental meetings, safety education, and mandatory in-services.
  • Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in each of the various departments/areas of the facility.
  • Responsible for following the cleaning policy and procedure for each department.
  • Following guidelines in the use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Ability to wear proper protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using Sanford technology applications depending on location and availability.
  • Performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lifting and/or moving up to 40-50lbs and pushing/pulling variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up/down ramps.
  • Being on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Working varying hours based on patient needs, including potential overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
