About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The position involves wearing proper protective equipment, keeping storage areas stocked and tidy, and potentially using pagers and other technology. Assistance in laundry areas may be required, and access to Sanford technology applications may be available depending on location and program availability. The role involves considerable use of arms and legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours will vary depending on patient needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • No formal education is required.
  • Must fulfill the annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility, including departmental meetings, safety education, and mandatory in-services.
  • Knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in each of the various departments/areas of the facility.
  • Following the cleaning policy and procedure for each department while following guidelines in the use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.
  • Considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Being on feet for the majority of their shift.
  • May be exposed to certain levels of noise with the equipment in operation.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wearing the proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines.
  • Keeping storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assisting in the laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Using Sanford technology applications depending on location and availability of programs.
