About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for Sanford Health patients, visitors, and associates. This involves adhering to infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Key tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various cleaning equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques specific to a healthcare environment to ensure a clean and sterile setting for patients and staff. Cleaning responsibilities extend to various locations such as patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment, keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked and tidy, and use pagers and other assigned technology appropriately. Assistance in laundry areas may also be required.

Requirements

  • Fulfill the annual continuing education requirements of the department and facility including departmental meetings, safety education and mandatory in-services.
  • Have knowledge in general day-to-day housekeeping tasks in each of the various departments/areas of the facility.
  • Responsible for following the cleaning policy and procedure for each department while following guidelines in the use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.

  • Empty waste baskets.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors, using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Clean patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas so that health standards are met.
  • Wear the proper protective equipment following the appropriate guidelines.
  • Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate.
