About The Position

The Environment Services Specialist/Housekeeper plays a vital role in caring for our patients, visitors and staff by ensuring a safe and clean environment each and every day. The Operating Room Environmental Services Specialist helps with room turnover, cleans, terminally cleans, and maintains specified areas within the Perioperative Suites as outlined by AORN standards. This individual is responsible for following hospital regulations/policies regarding cleaning, biohazard waste disposal, linen distribution, restocking and communication with ancillary departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Eight Grade education required
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination
  • Ability to see and hear at a level sufficient to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies and comprehends basic principles of clean and sterile technique per hospital policy and Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) guidelines.
  • Performs work in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as appropriate per policy.
  • Understands fire and electrical safety, infection control, body mechanics, and related areas, as appropriate to position.
  • Properly and safely use cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and BHS standards.
  • Empties trash and garbage containers.
  • Tests, monitors, and records eyewash stations weekly.
  • Completes work assignments in allotted time.
  • Notifies Charge Nurse/Clinical Nurse Manager/Director of Surgical Services concerning any need for any maintenance repairs or additions observed.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Informs RN Charge when leaving the department.
  • Reads and understands labels on chemicals regarding proper use, PPE required, and safety measures as demonstrated in performance and noted through supervisor observation and peer input, when appropriate.
  • Always observe safety precautions and reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Performs routine cleaning/terminal cleaning of OR suites, locker rooms, lounges, corridors, etc. in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
