About The Position

By joining the Division of Water/Surface Water Permits Branch/Municipal Section as an Environmental Scientist Advisor in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to serve as the statewide coordinator for the Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) program which will include the review and analysis of toxicity laboratory testing results. This position will provide technical assistance and technical oversight for permittee compliance with Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permit requirements, including state and federal regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science.
  • Five years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and the Microsoft suite of software.
  • Strong organizational skills and capable of prioritizing tasks and following through on responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze toxicity test reports for completeness and compliance with program requirements.
  • Evaluate requests from the regulated community pertaining to the WET program and serve as a resource to the regulated community and the agency regarding questions and concerns.
  • Maintain log of submittits and track compliance.
  • Identify permit violations related to the WET program, refer violations to Division of Enforcement, and monitor compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
