About The Position

Start a meaningful career with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist. In this role, you will help ensure that facilities and operations follow environmental laws that protect clean water. You will work with staff, legal teams, and local partners to address concerns and support enforcement actions. DEP encourages dedicated individuals who are ready to help safeguard Pennsylvania’s natural resources to apply. This position supports the Clean Water Program by developing compliance strategies, reviewing enforcement actions, and coordinating with legal and technical staff.

Requirements

• One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Meet the PA residency requirement.
• Be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Develop compliance plans that address specific enforcement situations
• Assist in drafting violation notices, orders, agreements, and penalty assessments
• Work with attorneys to prepare case documents and provide detailed case information
• Guide staff on preparing enforcement materials and using available enforcement tools
• Enter escalated actions into electronic systems and update records as needed
• Provide information to operators, officials, consultants, and the public on program requirements
