About The Position

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an Environmental Performance Co-op student to join their team in January 2027 for an 8 or 12-month term. This co-op position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world mining operation, applying academic knowledge to environmental data management, reporting, and assurance programs. The role involves working with environmental data systems, supporting the development of best practices and audit processes, conducting site inspections, and contributing innovative ideas for business improvement. EVR is committed to responsible resource development and environmental performance, and this co-op offers a chance to contribute to these efforts within the scenic Elk Valley of British Columbia.

Requirements

  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Environmental Performance
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions is preferred
  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with a willingness to work outdoors when required
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels and partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Power BI is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Update and manage environmental data and reporting in our Environmental Data Management System (EMS)
  • Support with the development of an assurance program and implement best management practice
  • Support with the development of internal self-assessments, verification and audit processes
  • Support with the development of, coordination of, performance of, and reporting on environmental assurance activities including effectiveness reviews
  • Summarizing environmental inspections and outcomes into appropriate databases to track, report, and verify compliance as well as provide support to improvement projects
  • Conduct site inspections, perform gap assessments and share best practices
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
