Environmental Manager
About The Position
VCNA is seeking an Environmental Manager to oversee environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at their plant. This role involves obtaining permits, preparing reports, coordinating monitoring, and acting as the primary contact for environmental agencies. The manager will develop and implement environmental strategies, approve programs in collaboration with engineering, and manage key performance indicators. A strong focus will be placed on integrating sustainability into daily operations, managing the department budget, and liaising with the community on environmental matters. The position also requires ensuring timely completion of all environmental reports, promoting awareness of environmental issues, training staff, participating in the energy management team, and maintaining the ISO 14001 environmental management system. Auditing environmental performance and reporting to internal and external clients are also key responsibilities.
Requirements
- Experience in obtaining necessary permits and approvals.
- Experience in preparing environmental reports.
- Experience in coordinating monitoring and testing of wastewater discharges, air emissions, and waste streams.
- Experience serving as the main contact for environmental agencies.
- Ability to develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans.
- Ability to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate requirements.
- Ability to approve short- and long-term programs in collaboration with engineering staff.
- Ability to review production, quality control, logistics, maintenance, and mining reports and statistics.
- Ability to manage key performance indicators.
- Ability to incorporate sustainability and environmental management practices into operations and decision-making.
- Ability to prepare department budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Ability to liaise with the community on environmental issues.
- Ability to coordinate public hearings and consultations on environmental issues.
- Ability to ensure timely completion of all required reports.
- Ability to promote awareness of environmental issues.
- Ability to train staff in environmental issues and responsibilities.
- Experience with the E=MC2 energy management team or similar.
- Experience with implementation, maintenance, and certification of the ISO 14001 environmental management system.

Responsibilities

- Review production, quality control, logistics, maintenance, and mining reports and statistics to plan and modify production activities.
- Manage the department's key performance indicators.
- Incorporate sustainability and environmental management practices into day-to-day operations and decision-making at the plant.
- Prepare the department budget and monitor the expenditure of funds within the budget.
- Liaise with the community on environmental issues.
- Coordinate public hearings and consultations on environmental issues.
- Ensure that all required reports are completed on time and that appropriate safeguards are provided in defined policies and procedures.
- Promote awareness at all levels of the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues on legal, corporate, ethical, and social responsibility.
- Train staff at all levels of the organization in environmental issues and responsibilities.
- Be a member of the E=MC2 energy management team.
- Implement, maintain, and certify the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
- Perform audits, analyze, and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulators.
