About The Position

Based at the Goliath Gold Complex near Dryden, ON, we currently have an exciting opportunity for one (1) Environmental Coordinator to join our NexGold team, reporting to the Vice-President of Sustainability or designate. The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, reporting, and coordinating field based programs and procedures to ensure environmental compliance with site standards, permits, approvals, and both federal and provincial legislation.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited University or College degree within a relevant discipline, with a preference in Environmental Studies.
• 2-3 years of environmental experience.
• Experience in managing external contractors, consultants and overseeing co-op / placement students.
• Valid G Class Drivers License in Ontario.
• Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Good judgement, positive attitude, and flexible nature.
• Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
• Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental legislation concerning the Goliath Gold Complex.
• Physically capable of routinely lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds.
• Capable of walking up to 5 kilometers on uneven ground.

Responsibilities

• Collect, monitor, and analyze environmental data related to a variety of disciplines such as surface water, groundwater, hydrology, geochemistry, aquatics, SAR, air quality, etc. using best practices, methods, trends, and developments in data management, including company-specific processes (Borealis or alternate software that the company may use at a later date).
• Organize and coordinate field-based programs, schedules, data, and records consistent with regulatory and company requirements, as well as logistics for field programs in collaboration with external consultants.
• Participate, as required, in the preparation and/or review of technical reports, studies, drawings, regulatory submissions, etc., to ensure compliance with legislation, potential permits/authorizations, and commitments.
• Maintain accurate data and test results in accordance with sampling and monitoring criteria and verify QA/QC for external laboratories.
• Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and updating of environmental management and monitoring plans, policies, and procedures.
• Participate, as required, in community and indigenous engagement and consultation events.
• Supervise site environmental staff, including but not limited to environmental technicians, related co-op students, and consultants.
• Review and complete environmental inspections and audits, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring compliance with various environmental monitoring programs.
• Provide guidance and support on-site hazardous waste management and disposal according to site standards and legislation and maintain spill response plans and spill reporting registry.
• Completion of required compliance reporting including the analysis, interpretation, and effective communication of environmental data to inform site management decisions and provide suggestions for environmental improvements.
• Provide support on technical and permitting processes, including supporting communications and documentation of such with government regulators and approval boards, as appropriate.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental responsibilities.
• Additional responsibilities or tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
