Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the Environmental Compliance Regulatory Lead position. The Environmental Compliance Regulatory Lead reports to the Environmental Compliance Regulatory Coordinator. The primary functions of this position include: Conducting field inspections of municipal facilities, construction sites, and industrial operations to ensure compliance with MS4 permit requirements, hazardous waste regulations, and air quality standards Leading stormwater infrastructure inspections, including documentation, reporting, and follow-up enforcement actions Operating internal hazardous materials functions — including waste classification, lab packing, manifest preparation, and coordination with licensed disposal vendors — in compliance with HAZWOPER, RCRA, and local regulations Developing and delivering public education and outreach programs focused on pollution prevention, household hazardous waste, and stormwater awareness Serving as a technical mentor and field lead for junior staff, while supporting regulatory agency coordination, emergency response to environmental incidents, and continuous improvement of compliance plans. This is a full-time, Non-Exempt position eligible for overtime compensation. Employment with the Town of Gilbert is at-will.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental compliance and/or environmental permitting
  • At least 1 year of experience and/or training in waste classification, segregation, lab packing, household hazardous waste facility operations, or chemical facility warehouse work
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain MS4 Compliance & Code Enforcement Certified Inspector certification within 6 months of hire
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification required within first year of hire
  • RCRA Certification required
  • Hazardous Material Transportation Certification (HM181) required
  • Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License required

Responsibilities
