About The Position

WSP is seeking an experienced Environmental Client Service Leader in the greater Los Angeles Area market to lead the development and execution of an environmental business strategy focused on growth, client service excellence, and market leadership. This role is central to expanding WSP’s presence across Southern California by increasing sales with existing clients and strategically broadening our client base. The ideal candidate brings established relationships with LA Metro, LADWP, LADPW, Caltrans, and/or CAHSR, along with a broad environmental background spanning compliance, geotechnical, planning/permitting, natural and cultural resources, water, waste, and/or remediation. Experience working across multiple markets—power, water, state/municipal, federal, and industrial/commercial—is essential to success in this role. This position is a true seller‑doer opportunity with a strong emphasis on business development, strategic growth, and client relationship management. You will lead client engagement strategies, identify and pursue new opportunities, and collaborate with technical and operational leaders to position WSP for long‑term success. In addition, you will oversee client service delivery across a diverse portfolio, ensuring high‑quality outcomes and consistent alignment with client expectations. As a key member of the Earth & Environment California Region leadership team, you will contribute to regional strategy, mentor emerging leaders, and help shape the future of our environmental practice. This role offers the ability to influence major infrastructure and environmental programs across Southern California while working within a collaborative, high‑performing team.

Requirements

  • Strong technical and business development experience in environmental services, including established relationships with key Los Angeles Area market clients and a demonstrated ability to win, grow, and manage major accounts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related technical discipline, with advanced coursework or specialized training viewed favorably for complex environmental programs.
  • PE and/or PMP certification preferred, reflecting a commitment to professional excellence, technical rigor, and effective project delivery.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence decision‑makers, guide multidisciplinary teams, and represent WSP in high‑visibility client and industry settings.
  • Experience leading teams of highly skilled professionals and effectively navigating a large enterprise to build internal partnerships, leverage cross‑practice capabilities, and drive integrated solutions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, coordination, and managerial skills with a proven track record of managing complex pursuits, resolving challenges, and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Ability to think strategically and act decisively in a fast‑paced, competitive market environment, with a focus on long‑term growth and client service excellence.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Increasing environmental sales, expanding strategic relationships, and developing new clients in the greater Los Angeles Area market and other high‑potential geographies, with a focus on positioning WSP as a preferred partner for major infrastructure and environmental programs.
  • Developing and driving a comprehensive business development strategy for environmental growth, including strengthening account plans, deepening client engagement, and capturing additional work through existing contracts, on‑call agreements, and long‑term programs.
  • Expanding the opportunity pipeline and leading capture efforts for key environmental pursuits by shaping win themes, coordinating pursuit teams, guiding proposal strategy, and ensuring competitive, compliant, and compelling submissions.
  • Serving as a technical or project lead on high‑visibility, strategically important projects, providing oversight, quality assurance, and subject‑matter expertise to ensure successful delivery and strong client satisfaction.
  • Being active in professional societies and industry organizations where clients or potential clients are members, representing WSP in leadership roles, participating in committees, and elevating the firm’s visibility and reputation in the Southern California market.
  • Collaborating with regional and national practice leaders to align market strategy, share insights, and leverage WSP’s multidisciplinary capabilities to pursue integrated, cross‑practice opportunities.
  • Mentoring and developing emerging talent within the Earth & Environment team, fostering a culture of client service excellence, technical quality, and proactive business development engagement.
  • Monitoring market trends, funding streams, and regulatory drivers to anticipate client needs, identify emerging opportunities, and inform strategic planning and investment decisions.
