The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to support the District’s comprehensive safety and compliance programs. Under general supervision, this position provides direct environmental health and safety services to employees and operational divisions, assisting in the development, implementation, and auditing of EH&S programs across a wide range of regulatory topics. The incumbent plays a key role in strengthening the District’s safety culture by conducting accident and incident investigations, preparing detailed reports, analyzing trends, and recommending corrective measures to reduce risk and improve workplace safety. This role also supports the creation and delivery of OSHA-compliant training, including video, CBT, and contractor-provided instruction, and prepares procurement documentation as needed to maintain program readiness and regulatory alignment. In this role, the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist contributes directly to the protection of employees, patrons, and the public by performing facility and operational inspections, documenting findings, and monitoring PPE use to ensure adherence to established safety procedures. The position applies professional-level knowledge of environmental health and safety principles, Title 8 CCR regulations, and industry standards to support compliance and operational excellence. The incumbent serves as a liaison to regulatory agencies, participates in District-wide safety meetings and campaigns, and delivers toolbox talks on diverse safety topics to reinforce awareness and accountability. Through sound judgment, collaboration, and technical expertise, this position helps drive continuous improvement and ensures that BART’s operations meet or exceed regulatory safety requirements.
