About The Position

Winston Churchill High School is seeking an English for Access Teacher to join their team! The successful candidate will be an eager and enthusiastic educator who strives to promote Churchills motto of Work Hard, Be Kind and will: Demonstrates expertise in teaching beginner and emerging English language learners while supporting the development of foundational literacy, numeracy, and school-readiness skills within an intensive, multi-age homeroom learning environment. Understands the unique needs of students with limited or interrupted formal schooling and is skilled in scaffolding academic, social, and communication skills to support successful transition into English as an Additional Language programming and other high school classes. Is a collaborative, student-centered educator who is willing to challenge barriers within the system, advocate for equitable supports for newcomer students and families, and work creatively with translators, community agencies, and school teams to ensure students feel safe, supported, and successful. Builds strong, authentic relationships with students, families, and community partners, recognizing the importance of trust, advocacy, and connection in supporting students who may be experiencing displacement, interrupted schooling, or emotional trauma. Demonstrates a deep commitment to creating inclusive, anti-racist, and culturally responsive learning environments that honour diverse identities, lived experiences, and ways of knowing, including Indigenous perspectives and newcomer experiences.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of diverse learning contexts and the variables that influence student success, including cultural, social, and individual factors
  • Possesses deep knowledge of subject disciplines and applies evidence-based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices in elementary education
  • Shows proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs
  • Implements effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can thrive
  • Integrates technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences
  • Embodies the qualities of a reflective professional, actively engaging in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS)
  • Demonstrates commitment to building and maintaining respectful, professional relationships within the school community
  • Values and actively participates in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families
  • Contributes actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs while developing effective partnerships within the school and broader community
