About The Position

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently seeking a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction to students enrolled in English-related coursework at any KCKCC location, while supporting the institution's mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Master’s or higher degree in English or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 credit hours of graduate English coursework.
  • Three (3) years' teaching experience in English at a community college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in an open-enrollment, urban community college.
  • Five (5+) plus years of teaching experience in English composition and literature.
  • Experience teaching co-requisite reading and writing courses.
  • Experience working with first-generation underprivileged students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated by the ability to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and/or other items as required.
  • Teach scheduled classes in alignment with college policies and curriculum goals.
  • Teach English and integrated reading and writing courses with clear and measurable objectives.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance, including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Successfully complete important assessment work.
  • Utilize student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student advising and academic support.
  • Complete assessment activities and documentation per the Office of Assessment's guidelines.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development while sustaining desirable classroom results.
  • Serve on institutional committees as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
