About The Position

This position serves as an Engineering Technician II in Randolph County Maintenance, assisting in the inspection of roadway assets and inventories. The role supports preliminary inspection work for RMIP and HMIP highway maintenance programs and acts as the county-wide erosion and sediment control/storm water site manager. Inspections will cover areas such as storm drains and appurtenances, roadway surface treatment condition, and highway safety issues. The position also involves entry-level technical work including material sampling, testing, and inspection to ensure adherence to DOT and private contractor codes/standards. Responsibilities include performing weekly guardrail damage assessments, assisting with NPDES inspections and record keeping, conducting rainfall assessments of secondary road projects, assisting in facility compliance assessments, and supporting maintenance crews as directed by the supervisor. The role requires the ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with standards, specifications, and contract terms, and a knowledge of general concepts, practices, and theories in highway/utility construction and maintenance. The ability to read and interpret construction plans and general mathematical functions is necessary. The position is subject to emergency callback, including snow and ice removal, and may require work at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays for inspection, maintenance operations, and surveying duties. The job requires working safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards like traffic, heights, and uneven terrain. Moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing, is expected, with the ability to lift 50lbs. The role may involve other assigned duties and requires the legal operation of a state vehicle. Safety toe footwear is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with standards, specifications.
  • Ability to comply with terms of contracts.
  • Knowledge/understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in highway/utility construction and in general highway maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • General knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.
