About The Position

L3Harris Technologies, in Rochester, NY, is looking for an Engineering Technician to specialize in aerospace environmental testing. Responsibilities will include operation, maintenance, and modification of thermal vacuum test chambers used in the assembly, integration, alignment and testing of aerospace hardware. The candidate will provide support for customer product testing and will also be expected to work on infrastructure improvement projects, updating and improving operational equipment and data monitoring systems.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Professional experience with mechanical and/or electrical repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Experience with PC and Microsoft Product operations
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Ability to obtain required government security clearance upon being hired

Nice To Haves

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance highly preferred
  • Experience with cryo pumps, cryo compressors, turbo pumps, roughing pumps, pneumatic gate valves, cryogenic systems, liquid Nitrogen delivery systems, Helium leak checking, and VCR connections
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures and clearly document test data and events through written logs and spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Speaks clearly and concisely, presenting ideas effectively to individuals or groups
  • Familiar with use and application of sensors: thermocouples, thermistors, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, etc.
  • Experience welding thermocouples
  • Experience with PLC hardware and software
  • Experience with test set and data acquisition software, particularly LabVIEW and BenchLink
  • Knowledge of basic network setup and maintenance
  • Experience working in a clean room with ESD and contamination sensitive flight hardware
  • Experience with cable mate/demate

Responsibilities

  • Support test configuration, execution, and de-configuration activities including:
  • Working rotating 24/7 shift coverage during testing
  • Configure vacuum chambers - set-up the chambers to meet program requirements, both electrical and mechanical
  • Monitoring and operating chamber controls and overall chamber environment during product testing
  • Set up, operate and monitor computers, chamber telemetry systems, data acquisition, manually record data, and maintain detailed test logbooks
  • Troubleshoot chamber and related equipment in the event of an issue during test
  • Participating in design reviews and test readiness reviews.
  • Continuous improvement of processes.
  • Ability to read, follow and sign off manufacturing work instructions, shop orders and test procedures
  • Execute mechanical/electrical repairs and complete preventative maintenance of vacuum chamber systems
  • Set up, maintain, and operate electronic test equipment (volt meters, thermocouple meters, data loggers, temperature and humidity sensors)
  • Work in a team environment with others including assembly personnel, a variety of engineers, and other test technicians
  • This position will start with a standard day shift, but will require additional shift work
  • Shift work including extended shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Ability to work shift coverage (Various shifts) for extended periods, generally 3+ months
  • Able to work in a SCIF and clean room environment
