This is an onsite role requiring 5 days per week on Auburn Hills, MI. Responsibilities include examining test samples, reading measuring instruments, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions. The role involves developing operating, maintenance, and test procedures based on laboratory procedures, standards, and safety policies. It also includes assisting in scheduling, assigning, reviewing, and coordinating workflow to ensure proper staff utilization, and directing the daily activities of designated staff. Advising supervisors on staffing levels, performance appraisals, and merit ratings is also part of the role. The technician will design, adapt, or direct the building of test setups and equipment for new situations based on analysis of test specifications and engineering department requests. Preparing purchase and material requisitions and recommending solutions to observed test problems are key duties. Communication with engineering personnel for instructions, data conveyance, and equipment availability, as well as with clients during test setup and performance to demonstrate equipment test methods or discuss results, is essential. There may be communication with UL field representatives regarding follow-up tests, samples, equipment, methods, and results. Additionally, communication with plant department personnel to offer suggestions on equipment needs and arrange for sample delivery is required. The role involves recording observed or calculated data on appropriate UL forms and preparing data sheets and reports. Developing training seminars and assisting in training laboratory staff may also be part of the responsibilities. Planning tests, evaluating test results, and reporting opinions and interpretations are crucial. The technician may assist PDEs and/or Engineering in modifying existing methods or developing and validating new test methods. Assisting in developing annual budgetary goals, capital expenditure budgets for laboratory equipment, and tactical plans for the assigned laboratory section is expected. Integrating continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job is a requirement.
