About The Position

Temple University's Health Sciences Campus-Facilities Department is searching for an Engineering Supervisor! This position is responsible for supervising the 24-hour operations of the hospital's physical plant. Any leaks and repairs to steam lines, water systems, gas systems, and pneumatic tubes within the hospital fall under the supervision of this position. The operation of these systems is essential for providing hospital buildings with utilities and services for patient care. This supervisor is also responsible for maintaining plant documentation required by multiple overseeing bodies, including the Joint Commission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of institutional mechanical trades supervisory experience in a union or non-union environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC & MEP piping system, fire protection and all related systems common to hospitals, labs, & higher education facilities.
  • Knowledge of fabrication of related piping and various materials and joining methods.
  • Understanding of State and City of Philadelphia codes, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of project management and the ability to establish priorities.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, steam, closed loop chilled water systems, hot water systems and refrigeration principles.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships / interact closely and ability respond to all levels of Health System Administration and Clinical Leadership is required to be successful in this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Philadelphia Class A Engineer License.
  • Five (5) years of institutional mechanical trades supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the 24-hour operations on the hospitals physical plant.
  • Overseeing repairs to steam lines, water systems, gas systems and pneumatic tube inside of the hospital.
  • Maintaining documentation of the plant required by multiple overseeing bodies including the Joint Commission.
  • Continually re-assessing work assignments and re-directing the work force to address problems or situations in areas of higher acuity.
  • Resolving complex problems within area of expertise.
  • Providing guidance to others in the decision-making process within area of technical expertise.
  • Applying creativity and encouraging innovation to problem resolution and work processes within general parameters.
