About The Position

The Engineering Supervisor (ES) is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for the engineering teams and distribution systems within the Columbus Operating HQ. This position will work closely with the other functional departments in the area to deliver best in class, customer value, reliability and cost as well as supporting external community activities. The ES will lead restoration efforts during area storm events and will be required to participate in SERP events across the Southern System and events off system as required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Formal leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven record of dealing effectively with customers is preferred.
  • Influencer and champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion through words and actions
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Georgia Power Transmission and/or Distribution is preferred.
  • Experience working as a Distribution Engineer is preferred.
  • Cross-functional, cross-company experience is a plus
  • Experience managing capital and O&M budgets is a plus
  • Experience with storm response and planning is preferred
  • Experience with TCMS, ARCOS, JETS, CSS, ARMS, or DISTIEW is a plus
  • Knowledge of Power Delivery operations and processes preferred
  • Knowledge of Distribution operations practices and procedures preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships and a strong team

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team in a Safety Excellence environment with a focus on learning how to work safely and how engineering decisions impact the safety of peers and coworkers.
  • Build a culture where team members feel included, valued, and free to speak up.
  • Ensure the development of team members, communicating business goals to the team, and providing performance management to the team.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for planning, engineering, design, and construction of all activities in the area.
  • Monitor and guide area-wide Distribution functional budgets, compliance, and system maintenance to ensure reliability.
  • Investigate extended or significant outages as well as timely addressing customer issues that arise.
  • Provide guidance to the team in dealing with customer issues (internal and external) and communicate with upper management about customer issues.
  • Lead restoration efforts during area storm events and participate in SERP events across the Southern System and events off system as required.
