About The Position

PACCAR’s Kenworth Truck Company is seeking a motivated AI/ML intern to join the Engineering Business Insights team. The intern will support the development and deployment of intelligent systems by assisting with data preparation, model development, and performance evaluation. The role offers hands-on experience with real-world datasets and contributions to projects in predictive analytics, automation, and decision intelligence, applying data science techniques to business problems. Internships are scheduled to begin in May or June 2027.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Basic understanding of machine-learning concepts and algorithms, such as regression, classification, clustering, and evaluation metrics.
• Proficiency in Python or R, with experience using libraries such as scikit-learn, pandas, and NumPy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

• Junior or senior standing is preferred.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Tableau.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and version control (Git).

Responsibilities

• Support data scientists and engineers in developing, training, and deploying AI/ML models.
• Prepare structured and unstructured data for model training and evaluation.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns and insights.
• Implement and evaluate basic machine-learning algorithms using standard metrics.
• Build dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights.
• Document workflows, assumptions, and results for reproducibility.
• Contribute ideas during brainstorming sessions on AI/ML applications.
• Stay current on AI/ML trends and suggest improvements.
• Translate business requirements into data-driven solutions.
• Manage time effectively and maintain high attention to detail.
• Collaborate across teams to meet project goals.
