About The Position

The Iowa Department of Transportation's Mission is Making Lives Better Through Transportation. This position is located in the Sioux City District 3 office and has shift requirements of 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential for varying hours and some travel primarily for training or meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency; and A total of five years of full-time experience in highway design, maintenance, construction, or materials; or administrative support in inventory management, training programs, administrative recordkeeping or closely related areas.
  • A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as an Engineering Office Assistant 1 or three years of full-time work experience in highway design, maintenance, construction, or materials.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as principal assistant to the District Management Staff, including but not limited to District Engineer, Assistant District Engineer, District Construction Engineer, and District Maintenance Manager.
  • Plans, coordinates, and organizes office activities and flows of communications for the District Management Staff.
  • Serves as lead worker for other administration staff and coordinates and directs workloads as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
  • Supports District supervisory functions such as performance evaluations, staff actions, out-of-state travel requests, and processing system access.
  • Lead person in the district to work with the Office of Purchasing and administer and audit payments.
  • Create and maintain databases to be used for analysis, tracking, and monitoring a variety of business functions.
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and track the formal agreements with other state agencies, other states, counties, municipalities.
  • Establish and maintain vendor accounts for outside services for the district office.
  • Serve as the first contact with the public for inquiries into the services provided or assets that are maintained.
  • Operate computer programs such as Workday, Microsoft Office applications, and internally developed software programs.
