Engineering Manager, Launch & Sandboxes

CoreWeave•Sunnyvale, CA
•$165,000 - $242,000

About The Position

CoreWeave is hiring an Engineering Manager for its IaaS organization to lead the Launch & Sandboxes team. The team owns Sandboxes, cloud execution environments that let practitioners run code in isolated, GPU-enabled containers, and Launch, the services and integrations supporting job submission, compute orchestration, and HPC schedulers. Its systems connect developer workflows to compute across Kubernetes clusters, HPC nodes, and cloud virtual machines, helping customers launch, manage, and scale AI workloads across CoreWeave’s infrastructure. The Engineering Manager will be involved in the full product lifecycle, from ideation and roadmap shaping through delivery and customer support. The role partners with product management to prioritize competing initiatives, resolves cross-team dependencies, and ensures reliable delivery while managing technical debt. The manager should be technically fluent in areas such as container orchestration, distributed authentication, and billing infrastructure, and be willing to engage hands-on when needed. The role’s primary people-management focus is developing engineers into autonomous leaders and technical decision-makers. The manager is expected to champion the organization’s use of LLM-based coding tools and agentic workflows, stay close to ML practitioners’ experiences, and ensure customer needs inform team priorities. The manager owns team outcomes end-to-end, from roadmap commitments to production reliability, makes difficult prioritization decisions, maintains engineering quality, and builds an autonomous, urgent, accountable team.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of engineering management experience, with a track record of shipping infrastructure or platform products.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience before management, with depth in backend systems.
  • Technical fluency in Go, Python, and Kubernetes sufficient to review pull requests, unblock architectural decisions, and understand production incidents.
  • Experience managing teams that own distributed systems in production.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance product delivery with technical health, including technical debt, reliability, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Experience partnering with product managers to shape and prioritize a roadmap.
  • Track record of developing engineers across levels.
  • Strong communication skills with engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, particularly in newer product areas where scope is still being defined.
  • Must meet the stated export-control eligibility requirements for access to export-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ML infrastructure, ML platforms, or developer tools for data scientists.
  • Familiarity with compute orchestration, job scheduling, or container isolation technologies.
  • Experience managing teams through a product-area transition, such as early-stage growth or post-acquisition integration.
  • Background in HPC or scientific computing environments.
  • Experience with billing systems, metering, or usage-based pricing infrastructure.
  • Founding experience or an early-stage background taking a product from idea to users.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Launch & Sandboxes engineering team and its work across cloud execution environments, job submission, compute orchestration, and HPC scheduler integrations.
  • Guide the full product lifecycle, from ideation and roadmap shaping through delivery and customer availability.
  • Partner with product management to prioritize competing initiatives and shape the roadmap.
  • Unblock engineers on cross-team dependencies.
  • Ensure reliable delivery while managing technical debt and production reliability.
  • Participate in technical and architecture discussions involving container orchestration, distributed authentication, and billing infrastructure; engage hands-on when needed.
  • Grow engineers into autonomous leaders and technical decision-makers.
  • Champion LLM-based coding tools and agentic workflows within the team.
  • Stay close to ML practitioners’ product use and incorporate their needs into team priorities.
  • Own team outcomes end-to-end, make prioritization decisions, uphold engineering quality, and build a team that operates with autonomy and urgency.
