About The Position

Nucor Towers & Structures Inc, a division of Nucor, the nation's largest recycler and largest manufacturer of steel and steel products, is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Engineering Manager at our business unit located in Rock Hill, SC. This position reports to the Director of the Engineering Department. The role involves leading a team of Engineers, Estimators, and/or Detailers to provide quotes, designs, and drawings for transmission, distribution, substation, or other utility structures, primarily tubular steel poles, arms, and accessories. The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for interviewing and hiring new teammates, providing mentorship, coaching, and accountability, ensuring consistent application of design policies and procedures, managing team priorities, and guiding the team to deliver quality work on time. Additionally, the role requires active participation in the Division leadership team to drive continuous improvement, supporting the sales team through customer interactions, making decisions with other engineering leaders for safe and competitive product designs, and requiring travel for customer visits, plant support, and trade shows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership experience
  • 2+ years of utility pole/tower structures industry experience
  • 2+ years steel products design or structural steel connection design experience
  • Degree specifically with Structural emphasis
  • Master’s degree in engineering or business
  • Willing to relocate for future advancement opportunities within Nucor

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Engineers, Estimators, and/or Detailers to provide quotes, designs, and drawings for transmission, distribution, substation, or other utility structures; primarily tubular steel poles, arms, and accessories.

  • Travel is required to visit customers, support plants, exhibit at trade shows, and more.
  • Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
