Engineering Manager - Systems Triage (Metrics & Analysis)

Torc Robotics•Fort Worth, TX
•$160,800 - $193,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Torc is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Systems Triage Metrics & Analysis team. The team analyzes autonomous vehicle data, system performance indicators, and software quality metrics to help engineering leaders understand trends, investigate system behavior, and make informed decisions as the software advances toward production. The manager will lead technical professionals, establish consistent analytical approaches, and scale the tools and processes used to support engineering decision-making, while remaining close to technical analysis work. The role manages a small team delivering analysis and metrics reporting to internal engineering and customer-facing teams. It includes prioritizing work, supporting team development, owning test-escape and software-quality reporting, developing analysis and visualization tooling, and presenting findings to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. The manager will also work with triage and forensics teams to keep metrics and tools aligned with the rapid integration and deployment schedule of Torc’s self-driving software stack. The position may be based in a hybrid capacity at Torc’s Ann Arbor, Michigan; Blacksburg, Virginia; or Fort Worth, Texas offices, or remotely in the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • 2–5 years of industry experience in data analysis, metrics reporting, or test/defect tracking, with some prior experience leading or mentoring a small team.
  • Experience with Python programming and SQL for data analysis.
  • Ability to create new metrics from scratch, including defining the metric, implementing the data pipeline, and visualizing results.
  • Experience building data-analysis scripts and visualization tooling, such as with Python, SQL, or dashboarding tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira for defect/bug tracking and familiarity with software-quality reporting concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to learn in unstructured environments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving software and hardware infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex embedded or ADAS systems, including autonomous-driving software architecture, sensors, networking, compute hardware, or control systems.
  • Experience testing autonomous vehicles, ROS-based robotics systems, or ADAS features.
  • Experience with software development tools such as build systems, containers, and source control.
  • Experience with software for real-time or safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with Jama for requirements management and traceability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team responsible for analysis and metrics reporting for internal engineering and customer-facing teams.
  • Prioritize and assign workload across triage, metrics, and reporting requests, and remove blockers to delivery.
  • Coach and develop team members, including guidance on data analysis approaches, tooling practices, and career growth.
  • Own tracking and reporting of metrics for test escapes.
  • Provide system performance metrics based on data collected by Torc’s self-driving trucks.
  • Report on software quality using concepts such as defect ratios and software heatmap viewpoints.
  • Develop and maintain data analysis scripts and visualization tools for triage, metric reporting, and trend visualization.
  • Combine environmental observations with event logs to identify investigation opportunities and direct root-cause analysis.
  • Support defect-tracking workflows, including monitoring bug-ticket quality and the status of open defects.
  • Own and expand the team’s analysis and metrics tooling ecosystem, identifying automation opportunities and reducing request turnaround time.
  • Present metrics, trends, and software-quality findings to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Partner with triage and forensics teams to ensure metrics and tooling keep pace with the integration and deployment schedule for the self-driving software stack.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package with a bonus component and stock options.
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees.
