Engineering Manager, Data Infrastructure

Lucid Motors•Newark, NJ

About The Position

Lucid’s ADAS Data Infrastructure team builds and operates foundational systems for autonomous vehicle development. It creates scalable platforms, services, and data pipelines to ingest, process, store, and serve large-scale sensor data from vehicle fleets to engineering teams. The Engineering Manager leads the team responsible for this data platform, setting technical direction and owning delivery and operations of high-scale pipelines and backend services for camera, LiDAR, and vehicle telemetry data. The role also grows and coaches software engineers and partners with ADAS, ML, and platform customers to translate needs into a roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years managing or technically leading engineering teams.
  • Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing engineers.
  • Strong technical background in Python and building and operating backend services, distributed systems, or large-scale data platforms.
  • Experience with AWS, infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or OpenTofu, and deploying applications to Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Airflow or similar workflow orchestrators and designing data pipelines, ETL systems, or data processing frameworks.
  • Experience with containerized applications, microservices, and event-driven systems.
  • Experience owning production services, incident management, and operational metrics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams and influence stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the autonomous driving or automotive industry, specifically backend and cloud development.
  • Strong ownership mindset and experience driving projects from design through production operations.
  • Experience building distributed systems or data platforms that process large-scale datasets in cloud environments.
  • Experience managing budgets or optimizing cloud costs.
  • Experience managing teams that serve ML or autonomy data workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and feedback.
  • Own the roadmap, prioritization, and delivery of data ingestion, processing, storage, and serving platforms.
  • Support the architecture of Python- and AWS-based backend services, APIs, and data tooling; review designs and promote engineering best practices.
  • Own the reliability, observability, performance, and cost of production services.
  • Partner with internal customers, including ADAS, perception, ML, and data engineering, and external vendors to gather requirements and set expectations.
  • Manage storage, compute, and data movement budgets and capacity planning.
  • Drive CI/CD, infrastructure automation (IAC), and operational excellence across the platform.
  • Plan resourcing and run planning and execution rituals; report status, risks, and progress to senior leadership.
  • Build a culture of ownership, quality, and collaboration, while remaining hands-on enough in code and design reviews to guide technical decisions.
