Engineering Manager, Robotics Software

Tutor Intelligence•Watertown, MA
•$190,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Tutor Intelligence is a robotics research and deployment company that builds robot hardware and artificial intelligence. Its robots are manufactured at scale and operate as a network, combining fleet experience to improve robot AI. Founded at MIT and headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts, Tutor has a multidisciplinary team that designs and manufactures robot hardware, trains models, works with customers, and maintains its fleet across the United States. Tutor is hiring engineering managers to lead software teams responsible for parts of its robotics system, including robot software, cloud coordination, user tools, simulation, and research code. Each team owns a part of the system and is accountable for making it work on real robots in real facilities. The manager leads people, sets priorities, and guides technical direction. The amount of hands-on coding varies by team and may range from daily coding to focusing on people and coordination with strong technical leads. The role involves hiring and developing software engineers, owning a system from design through deployment to the fleet, and ensuring it performs in production. Managers work closely with hardware, research, and operations teams. The position is based on matching the manager with an appropriate team as teams grow and new teams form.
