About The Position

Datavant is the data collaboration platform trusted for healthcare. Guided by our mission to make the world’s health data secure, accessible and actionable, we provide critical data solutions for organizations across the healthcare ecosystem - including providers, health plans, researchers, and life sciences companies. From fulfilling a single patient’s request for their medical records to powering the AI revolution in healthcare, Datavanters are building the future of how data is connected and used to improve health. By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a driven and highly collaborative team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare. As the Engineering Manager on our Provider Engineering team, you will lead the team responsible for building and scaling our patient- and provider-facing request and forms products. These applications enable patients to request medical records and submit critical forms through a seamless, provider-branded experience—while automating complex fulfillment workflows behind the scenes. You will lead a team building full-stack applications and internal control plane capabilities that power high-volume, compliant transactions involving sensitive health information. Your mandate is twofold: deliver immediate business impact through adoption and reliability, and architect the platform so that onboarding new providers approaches near-zero marginal engineering cost over time. We’re looking for a leader who can operate as both technical strategist and pragmatic executor—someone who can raise the bar on engineering rigor, partner deeply with cross-functional stakeholders, and build systems that scale across health systems and geographies.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years of engineering management experience.
  • Proven experience leading teams that build fullstack web applications from the ground up (React, TypeScript, Node.js, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of modern application architecture, APIs, authentication (OAuth2, OpenID Connect), and secure data exchange.
  • Comfort operating in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC2) and building compliant solutions that scale.
  • A bias for action — able to balance speed, quality, and risk through clear communication and sound judgment.
  • Experience establishing engineering culture, delivery practices, and technical direction for new products.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills — able to bring clarity to ambiguity and partner effectively with cross-functional peers.
  • You are both a leader and a doer: willing to dig in, model good engineering, and coach others to reach their next level.

Responsibilities

  • Build, grow, and lead a high-performing team of full-stack engineers delivering patient request, forms, and supporting admin platform capabilities.
  • Define and drive the technical vision for scalable, reusable workflows that reduce engineering and operational cost per new provider implementation.
  • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Security, and Commercial teams to translate business goals—adoption, turnaround time, efficiency—into measurable engineering outcomes.
  • Ensure secure, compliant handling of sensitive health data, embedding strong controls around access, auditability, reliability, and incident management.
  • Architect modular, maintainable systems that align with broader provider platform standards and enable long-term scale.
  • Improve implementation speed and operational efficiency through automation, tooling, and clear integration patterns.
  • Establish and uphold strong engineering practices across CI/CD, testing, observability, and production readiness.
  • Be hands-on when needed—guiding critical design decisions, unblocking complex technical challenges, and mentoring engineers into technical leaders.
