Engineering Manager, Platform

DittoAustin, TX

About The Position

Ditto is redefining how data moves at the edge, enabling developers to build resilient, real-time applications regardless of network conditions. Their peer-to-peer sync engine ensures devices stay connected and data stays consistent, even without internet, powering mission-critical experiences across various sectors like aviation, retail, travel, hospitality, and defense. With over $145 million in funding and trusted by major organizations, Ditto is a globally distributed, fast-growing startup committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. The Engineering Manager, Platform will lead and develop a team of platform engineers focused on delivering managed Kubernetes across multiple cloud providers, BYOC customer deployments, and private networking capabilities for enterprise customers. This role involves owning the platform engineering delivery roadmap, driving foundational infrastructure programs, managing customer support commitments versus internal investment, translating technical architecture into executable plans, and building the operational foundation for high reliability and business continuity. The manager will also represent the team's work to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, with potential for broader scope in cloud networking and foundational infrastructure as the organization scales.

Requirements

  • Track record of leading platform or infrastructure teams through major modernization initiatives — managed Kubernetes migrations, multi-cloud expansions, or greenfield infrastructure builds
  • Strong enough technical depth in Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure to engage credibly with senior engineers on architecture decisions, identify risks in proposals, and represent technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience managing competing priorities across customer delivery commitments and internal platform investment — you know how to protect foundational work without dropping live obligations
  • Clear, direct communicator who can represent complex infrastructure programs concisely to executive audiences and push back constructively when scope or timelines are unrealistic
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity — you bring structure and clarity to situations that don’t have them yet, rather than waiting for perfect information before acting
  • Background in enterprise infrastructure deployment models where reliability, security posture, and compliance expectations are high
  • A proactive and curious attitude about how AI can support your role through automation, ideation, or more thoughtful decision-making

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or scaling a platform engineering function, including team design, hiring, and onboarding engineers into complex infrastructure domains
  • Familiarity with multi-cloud identity federation, OIDC delegation, or cross-provider authentication patterns
  • Hands-on background with private networking patterns or secure access tooling in production environments
  • Exposure to cloud account structure, organizational governance, or networking backbone design at the platform level
  • Open source contributions or community involvement in cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, or multi-cloud tooling

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of platform engineers delivering managed Kubernetes across multiple cloud providers, BYOC customer deployments, and private networking capabilities for enterprise customers
  • Own the platform engineering delivery roadmap — sequencing, dependency tracking, and cross-team coordination with Cloud Organization, Security, and Professional Services
  • Drive foundational infrastructure programs including private networking, managed Kubernetes, and cloud account governance, establishing patterns that become Ditto’s standard deployment baseline
  • Manage the balance between active customer support commitments and internal platform investment — setting clear interrupt budgets and protecting engineering capacity for high-priority roadmap work
  • Translate technical architecture decisions into executable plans, ensuring engineers have clarity on what to build, why it matters, and how each piece fits the larger platform picture
  • Build the operational foundation — SLOs, runbooks, incident response, and access management — that moves Ditto’s infrastructure toward four 9s of reliability and business continuity
  • Represent the Platform team’s work clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, communicating complex infrastructure programs to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • As the organization scales, take on broader scope across cloud networking and foundational infrastructure as those functions grow
