About The Position

Luxury Presence is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Maps & Search team. This team is responsible for the home search experience across web and mobile, handling a significant portion of the company's traffic with the search service alone managing a billion requests monthly. The ideal candidate is a leader who stays technically involved, has strong views on AI's impact on the software development lifecycle, and aims to maximize the productivity of a small, senior, AI-augmented team. This role involves setting technical direction, maintaining code involvement, and ensuring consistent team impact.

Requirements

8+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant senior or staff-level experience.
2+ years managing engineering teams.
Search experience, including work on search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems.
Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with full-stack fluency.
Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred).
Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka), and databases (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch).
Proven track record operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems at scale, with proficiency in SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning.
Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow the Maps & Search team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, direct feedback, and career development.
Manage the team with a focus on craft, building a healthy, high-performing team that delivers impactful changes.
Remain hands-on by contributing directly to code and design reviews, architecture, and debugging, while staying technically proficient to make informed trade-off decisions.
Own and scale a high-throughput search platform, driving architecture, relevance, latency, and reliability for a system handling approximately 1 billion monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings.
Deliver a world-class home search experience by owning the core home discovery experience across web and mobile, focusing on improving engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows while maintaining speed and responsiveness at scale.
Advance AI-powered discovery by collaborating with other teams to integrate LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows, enhancing how buyers and agents discover, filter, and interact with listings.
Shape the product roadmap in partnership with product and design teams, defining what to build and why, not just how.
Translate user needs and business goals into a clear technical plan, and manage end-to-end delivery, including planning, quality, reliability, and incident response.
