About The Position

Airbnb is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Checkout team, a critical part of the Booking & Pricing (B&P) organization. The B&P organization is responsible for key aspects of the guest and host experience, including listing merchandising, booking and reservation management, and pricing and calendar systems. The Checkout team specifically focuses on Airbnb's Checkout online APIs and user experience across all platforms, ensuring a fast, trustworthy, and conversion-optimized booking process. This role involves close collaboration with Product Marketing, Design, and Data Science teams. The Checkout team operates at the crucial point where guest intent meets transaction completion, building and managing the end-to-end booking flow, from pricing presentation and payment processing to booking confirmation. Success requires collaboration with Payments, Trust, Pricing, and other Product teams to deliver scalable, fast, and reliable systems. The team values engineering quality, ownership of outcomes impacting Airbnb's top line, and a culture of rigor, transparency, and shared accountability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within and across teams.
  • Passion for building intuitive and delightful products that solve real user problems while maintaining high technical quality.
  • Track record of growing engineers through promotion, scope expansion, or career pivots.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with experience leading teams operating large-scale, mission-critical production systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in building and operating booking-related systems such as transactional systems, payment flows, or high-availability APIs.
  • Experience evolving large systems through incremental migration strategies while maintaining product velocity.
