About the position
The job overview for the Engineering Manager position at Customer.io is to lead the software engineering squad in product discovery and project implementation. The role involves ensuring customer satisfaction and retention, shaping the engineering culture and process, and driving technical projects within the squad. The Engineering Manager will also empower and mentor team members, collaborate with Product Management and Design, recruit new team members, and improve processes. The ideal candidate should have experience in leading full-stack teams, understanding technical architecture, and providing feedback to engineers.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, influence, and drive technical projects within the squad
- Ensure scalability, architectural soundness, flexibility, and security of solutions
- Consciously incur and repay technical debt in a reasonable time
- Empower engineers and dev leads in the squad to succeed and mentor them
- Build and maintain a partnership with Product Management and Design peers
- Champion an inclusive, cooperative, and empathetic culture
- Recruit and hire new team members, with a focus on increasing diversity
- Improve processes and identify gaps in workflow
- Create accountability for delivery timelines and promote a healthy work culture
- Ensure quality in new product features
- Advocate for the vision of a great product team
- Understand technical architecture, review design work, and provide feedback
- Lead full-stack teams with a broad engineering background
- Make people and teams better through feedback, mentorship, and collaboration
- Preferably have 7+ years of experience as a Fullstack/Backend Software Engineer
- Preferably have 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager/Tech Lead
Requirements
- Experience as an Engineering Manager at an established, high-growth SaaS company
- Ability to understand technical architecture, review design work, and provide feedback to a team of engineers
- Broad engineering background and deep experience leading full-stack teams
- Ability to make people and teams better through feedback, mentorship, and collaboration
- Preferably 7+ years of experience as a Fullstack/Backend Software Engineer
- Preferably 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager/Tech Lead
