About The Position

Avathon is hiring a hands-on Engineering Lead in Product Engineering to build the core of its platform. The role leads the team responsible for data ingestion and connectors for IT and OT systems, the landing zone and data lake, the ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph, and services that enable models and AI agents to work with platform data. The platform must support multi-tenant SaaS, customer clouds, and air-gapped edge deployments while making new customer deployments faster. The Engineering Lead will write code, own architecture, and lead a team of engineers. They will set platform standards and own the quality, performance, and reliability of platform services, while partnering with product, cloud operations, security, model, and agent teams.

Requirements

8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading engineers.
Strong backend and distributed systems skills in Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
Experience with data pipelines, streaming such as Kafka, lakehouse architectures, and large-scale storage.
Experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

Built data or AI platforms used by other teams, ideally at Palantir, C3 AI, Databricks, Snowflake, Cognite, or a hyperscaler data or AI team.
Experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, or graph databases.
Experience with industrial data such as OPC-UA, historians, or SCADA, or with edge deployments.

Responsibilities

Own the architecture for data ingestion, including Avathon Data Ingest (ADI) at the edge and reusable connectors for OT protocols such as OPC-UA, DNP3, MQTT, and historians, as well as IT systems such as SAP and Oracle.
Build the landing zone and Bronze/Silver/Gold processing to turn raw data into clean, governed data.
Set standards for data quality, freshness, lineage, and access control across the platform.
Own services that map raw data into the ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph.
Make the graph fast and reliable at industrial scale and provide clean APIs for applications to query it.
Work with the Model Hub and agent teams so models and AI agents can safely read from and act on the graph.
Lead and grow a team of platform engineers; set priorities, review designs and code, and mentor team members.
Partner with the Platform product manager on roadmap, scope, and release planning.
Work with cloud operations and security on multi-tenant, single-tenant, on-premise, and edge deployments.
Own the quality, performance, and reliability of platform services.
